However a new treatment using Botox has now been discovered to help treat dysfunctional vocal chords.

By injecting Botox into the larynx, it weakens the muscles there making it easier for the patient to speak according to Dr. Andrew Blitzer of the Center for Voice and Swallowing Disorders at St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York. Dr. Blitzer is reported to have successfully treated a number of patients suffering from speech impediments by injecting them with Botox.

Botox is one of the most popular non-invasive cosmetic surgery procedures on the market and since it’s release in the mid 1990s has seen over 17 million treatments. Botox is a poison that helps to paralyze muscles. Over time, the Botox injection will wear off and have to be reapplied.
