If you want to take 10 years off your face but don’t want to go under the knife, there is a new product that might help – Active Chilean Rainforest Honey.
Active Chilean Rainforest Honey is said to help smooth fine lines and wrinkles whilst also tightening the skin, leading to a more youthful looking appearance. Used twice a day for 20 minutes, it is also said to be twice as good as normal moisturisers at reducing stretch marks, and for preventing sunburnt skin from peeling.
The honey is derived from the nectar of the Quillay, Tineo and Ulmo trees, native to the Valdivian rainforest of southern Chile. The honey, which can be eaten, is said to be more potent than the other famous honey, Manuka,
Unlike most jarred honies, Active Chilean Rainforest Honey is not pasteurised meaning it contains lots of vitamins and minerals. The honey is naturally acidic and high in antioxidants. It has also been shown to releases a small amount of hydrogen peroxide which helps to fight bacteria that infect wounds – including MRSA.
Local Chilean tribes have used it to treat wounds and common skin ailments for centuries and modern medicine is slowly starting to realise the benefits.
A clinical study by the Royal College of Surgeons in 2009 found that Active Honey killed more bacteria than Manuka honey.
However there are drawbacks to the honey: No clinical studies showing the efficacy of the product at making the skin look younger have been undertaken. Although the company claims that many of it’s users have reported looking up to a decade younger, there is no scientific proof behind these claims.
The naturally sticky nature of honey also means that it is possibly not ideal as a face cream either.
