Reversing the trend of the last few years, the number of men having cosmetic surgery has actually decreased.
The American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery (AACS) conducted it’s annual research into the cosmetic surgery industry in America. Their findings showed that whilst the number of women having cosmetic surgery procedures has increased, the number of men has decreased: in 2008, 2% less men saw a cosmetic surgeon whilst 29% more women saw a cosmetic surgeon.
The figures also showed that women are moving away from actual surgery towards less invasive cosmetic procedures such as Botox injections, laser resurfacing and laser hair removal. The move towards these procedures is probably down to two major factors the smaller costs and the shortened recovery time.
The top three cosmetic procedures performed in 2008 were liposuction, blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) and breast augmentation. The top three most popular non-invasive cosmetic procedures were Botox injections, laser hair removal and injectable fillers.

Interesting information. Although the number of surgical procedures may be decreasing for males, we’ve found, both anecdotally and statistically, that more men are having laser hair removal procedures.
