DIY Surgery on the increase
According to new research, techniques commonly used in cosmetic surgery procedures can be successfully applied to other forms of surgery. One of these techniques is to mark the patient with incision sites before surgery so that the scars will blend naturally into the lines of the body, thus ensuring minimum aesthetic damage to the patient.
Many patients are concerned with the scarring associated with general procedures, particularly when surgery leaves large scars. By hiding these scars within skin creases, it can hide the scar appearance and leave the patient feeling a lot happier about their outward appearance.
Other common cosmetic surgery techniques which could be applied to most surgeries are:
– Trimming traumatized edges of incision sites. Particularly in cases where surgeons have to remove parts of the body such as the thyroid though small incisions, the incision edges can become frayed. Instead of making a larger incision, surgeons can tidy the edges of the smaller incision, making nice tidy edges that come together better.
– Using surgical glue instead of suctures. Surgical glue is an excellent option because the patients then do not need to revisit the hospital to have their suctures taken out. Surgeons can also line up the edges of the wound neatly, leaving a nice straight scar.
