Anna Friel considers cosmetic surgery
The parents of a Down syndrome girl in the UK have courted controversy having put the child through three lots of cosmetic surgery procedures.
By the time she was five years old, Georgia Bussey had undergone three cosmetic surgery operations the first lot of surgery was to stop her tongue from poking out of her mouth; the second surgery was to remove folds of skin from around the inner corners of the eyes to take away from the ‘slantiness characteristic’ of Down’s Syndrome; The final surgery was to stop her ears from sticking out so much.
Critics of the parents have said that the parents’ actions are tantamount to child abuse. Georgia’s parents have defended their actions saying that in a society where we are judged on our looks first and foremost, they wanted to remove the most prominent Down’s characteristics so that Georgia would fit in better with her peers. They claim that society is not going to change overnight, and in a world where looks are highly prized, they want their daughter to fit easily into society.
The Bussey’s are not the only parents of a Down’s child who are considering cosmetic surgery for their children. There are several other cases of parents looking to cosmetic surgery to change their way their children look some advocate the surgery early on in the childrens’ lives, whilst others are waiting until their children turn 18 before making a decision over the cosmetic procedures.
Despite this, much of the criticism of the Bussey’s stems from parents with Down’s Syndrome children their argument is that the children should be loved and cherished for who they are and not what they look like, and they should not be physically changed just because they look a little different.

I don’t think it’s right at all.
I think that this is all wrong. It goes against God, and God made us the way we are, so why change that for other people, when we are supposed to live for Him, so keep yourself the way you are. We are all made to look different, and God has plans for us all, don’t change that.
Then they obviously don’t believe in god.
So… who cares?
You know that Down’s Syndrome has a n in it because the title says “Controversy over Cosmetic Surgery for Down’s Sydrome Children”
I’m not a god believer. it doesn’t matter if you do or not, screw that bullshit. your interest is for your child, and if you can make it better for them with cosmetic surgery in the long run, and make their life alittle easier, which ANY parent would do, then you would do it. Unless, of course, your an believer of the invisible god loving moron who would take god over their child. Atheism, based on facts. God: mythical, came from a rumour.
YOU WOULD HONESTLY THINK OF GOD FIRST OVER YOUR CHILD?!
MORONS!
personally i dont think they went far enough. i think to more cleverly disguise the retardation, they should have given a substantial boob job and a nice neat and tidy designer vagina and a sleek pair of jimmy choo shoes…. although these may cause further difficulties with walking.
As I read you comment I was saddend -yet I can understand your view point-doesnt make it right though, doesnt make me right either, that is why we call it FAITH (forsaking all trust him)….My prayer for you Crystal “May GOD Bless you and show you WHO HE IS….In JESUS’ Name Amen”…
