Charlotte Ronson: I wouldn’t have cosmetic surgery
A Prague cosmetic surgery clinic has come up with a unique perk for staff free cosmetic surgery.
The Czech health system is chronically understaffed, needing around 6,000 nurses on top of the 90,000 that are already employed according to the Czech Association of Nurses. Iscare, a private clinic in Prague, decided that to help their staff shortage they would offer free cosmetic surgery as a perk for staff.
The free plastic surgery offer was never actually advertised alongside of the job. Instead, word of mouth was used. Job applicants were told of the offer during the interview and staff at the clinic have told their friends about the offer and so word has quickly spread.
The Czech Republic has a shortage of nurses as pay isn’t particularly high and many nurses either opt for office work which is the same pay for fewer hours and less responsibility or have taken up better paid jobs in other countries. Many Czech hospitals have tried to recruit nurses from abroad, most notably from Vietnam, however language is often a large barrier.
Iscare’s new perks have done the trick. From being understaffed, they now have a wealth of job applicants both for nursing jobs and for doctors. The only catch is that any member of staff who has cosmetic surgery as a perk must work for the clinic for at least three years. If they choose to leave before they have served three years, they must pay for the full price of the cosmetic surgery they had.
Iscare have said that nurses’ favourite cosmetic surgery is breast implants; second is liposuction followed by tummy tucks. With breast implants costing around three months wages for a nurse, and two months wages for liposuction, Iscare are not expecting many nurses to leave before their three year’s service is up.
