Men choose cosmetic surgery over exercise
Having recently shut down a talent show it deemed ‘coarse’, the Chinese Government has said that it is now banning TV shows about cosmetic surgery and sex changes.
The government has issued an order banning “shows about cosmetic surgery and sex changes that involve public participation.” The order singles out a show called ‘A New Date with Beauty’, a show which broadcasts live cosmetic surgery including sex changes, breast implant surgery and liposuction. According to the order, the shows were explicit and cheap in tone.
The station’s operations chief He Yi has accepted the decision, stating it is ‘understandable’ and that his station would follow the order. “We didn’t meant to create a sensational atmosphere with the surgery,” Yi explained. “Rather, we wanted to give the audience a deeper understanding and remove their fear of plastic surgery through such a visual display. But we will definitely follow the administration’s order.”
It is not the first time that orders have been issued earlier in the year, the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) issued rules to uphold oral standards on some TV talents shows, and have wanted that those stations who fail to monitor the quality of their shows risk severe penalities.
