The ‘McDonalidsation’ of Cosmetic Surgery
Tyler considers cosmetic surgery
Ocean’s Thirteen star Ellen Barkin has criticised celebrities who feel they need to turn to cosmetic surgery to remain looking youthful.
53 year old actress Barkin said that she felt some stars in Hollywood had now undergone so many cosmetic surgery procedures that their acting was starting to be affected. “I think it is dangerous,” she explained. “They are sending out a signal saying ‘I’m not happy with where I am. I see celebrities of my age so sculpted that they don’t look natural any more. If their face cannot move or show expression, I am no longer interested in watching them act.”

I’m not a surgeon, but I work with a plastic surgeon in Naples, and everyday men and women come in who aren’t interested in looking like a celebrity or looking years younger; they just want to feel like they’ve never felt before – happy with their looks. Obviously, this makes them feel better, which leads to living a more fuller life. So who cares what Ellen Barkin thinks. She says it herself: “They are sending out a signal saying ‘I’m not happy with where I am.'” Exactly! Improving their look for whatever reason (career, personal) – is something they feel will bring them happiness. Is that so bad? What’s bad – in my opinion – is when celebrities think they speak for everyone. How does she know these celebs having surgery – or anyone for that matter – are not happy? If it’s so horrible, don’t have plastic surgery, Ellen, and don’t watch actors who have had it (won’t be many movies to see, though). I’ve interviewed many men and women who have had plastic surgery, and they always talk about how much happier they are.
