Actress Stephanie Beacham has revealed that although she has been offered cosmetic surgery in the past, she was not tempted.
The Dynasty and Coronation street actress explained in an interview with British newspaper The Daily Mirror that actresses often find age terrifying as they are continually under the microscope. Despite this, she has never been tempted to have cosmetic surgery and credits her good looks with looking after her skin through the years.
“I could never succumb to cosmetic surgery,” she said. “I’m proud of the way I look. I may be a grandmother but I feel fabulous.
“I don’t want to deny my age. Having said that, I do want to look good and I really believe you can without going under the knife.
“When I see the way some of the former Hollywood beauties look now it saddens me. Actress Faye Dunaway was one of the major beauties but she has not understood the truth of life she clung on in the wrong way.
“There are so many people out there like Joan Rivers who you see and think, ‘Oh my God, what have you done?’ People who look fabulous with make-up on but, if you saw them without, boy, they would frighten you!”
Although Beacham says cosmetic surgery is not for her, she says she wouldn’t say to other actresses to stop using Botox and other techniques. Instead, she explains she would ask the actress to think hard about her position as a role model and ask her whether cosmetic surgery was a message she wanted to portray.
Beacham also reveals that when she was diagnosed with skin cancer, her surgeon asked her if she would like to have cosmetic surgery at the same time as having the cancer removed.
“It was ridiculous as I’d had a little pink mark on the bridge of my nose for three years. I don’t know why I left it so long,” she continued. “I was lucky that I was able to have it removed with no repercussions.
“But while I was going through the procedure with the surgeon I was astonished when he suggested I might like a bit of top-up cosmetic surgery.
“It saddened me that going under the knife could be offered so casually and I refused.”
