Viagra is being touted as the latest ‘dream cream’ to help reduce cellulite. However the cream will not double up as a sex aid. The drug sildenafil is famously sold on as Viagra and new research hopes that by adding it into a moisturise it will help reduce the appearance of cellulite.
Beneath the surface of the skin is a layer of fatty tissue. For women with cellulite, this layer is thicker than those who do not suffer from the affliction. This fat layer coupled with an irregular layer of collagen produces the dimpling effect commonly associated with cellulite.
Reserachers from the University Hospital “Sisters of Charity” in Zagreb have said that the enzyme inhibitors in sildenafil have helped to break down fat in test tubes in laboratory conditions therefore it is reasonable to assume that it would also do the same to fat under the skin. Viagra is famous for stimulating blood flow therefore if it is incorporated into a moisturiser, it is believed that the blood flow to the area will improve thus helping to break down the fat and carry it away.
Unfortunately, the cream is just a theory and not a reality right now, and even if it were to prove a viable hypothesis, might take a long time to reach the market as a pharmaceutical company would have to pick up the research and start to investigate the claims further.
